As Digity's resident Christmas enthusiast, I've been planning for the big day almost as long as some the top brands have been brainstorming their 2017 Christmas adverts (since February for John Lewis, and April for me, in case you were wondering). However this year I was really disappointed with the big names' Christmas adverts - so many just missed the mark for me. That aside, there have still been a few truly great ones. From heartfelt emotion to catchy tunes, here is a run-down of the best festive adverts of 2017.

This year the bears are back with the story of how they met on a plane back in 1967. Complete with air hostess uniforms to match the eras, the advert shows the times they have been reunited with each other and their family at Heathrow Airport at Christmas. Although not everyone will be visiting an airport in the festive season, coming home for Christmas with family is a universal feeling which Heathrow have translated beautifully into a heart-warming, tear-jerking festive advert.

Food and family aside, giving thoughtful gifts is my favourite part of the festive season. Whether they bring back old memories or give the opportunity to create new ones there is nothing better than watching someone's face as they unwrap a present you've put a lot of effort into. This year the Boots advert encapsulates this perfectly, while also including hints to gifts you could buy in store. This advert gave me that Christmas feeling whilst making me want to check out their gifting section, and if that's not the mark of a great festive advert I don't know what is.

The Sainsbury's advert may be missing its usual narrative, but the annoyingly catchy festive tune more than makes up for it. Celebrating the festive season and the different traditions that make it special for everyone, this advert really captures that Christmassy feeling. With an appearance from The Royle Family's Ricky Tomlinson and Kermit the Frog, Sainsbury's have managed to capture what makes Christmas great in a really original way.

Surprisingly this has to be possibly my favourite advert this season. The advert follows a young girl and her father as they do their Christmas shopping while she is holding onto a McDonalds carrot stick for Santa's reindeer. When they arrive home and her brother reminds her there are more than one reindeer, the pair drive back to the drive-through. It's the perfect mix of heartfelt and humorous, and the relationship between the little girl and her father is sure to warm anyone's heart.
