Treat your business like a movement & grow it faster

Two years ago I came across a Ted Talk on 'how to start a movement' by Derek Sivers and it's one of the greatest videos I've ever seen. In terms of marketing, it helps answer the question "how will developing my brand help grow my business?" and why it's so important that you do. Watch the video below and read on to get some more tips on how to embrace this idea to speed up the growth of your own movement.

The first key lesson I'd highlight from this video is that you should never isolate yourself in your quest to build momentum and grow your company. The more people you have in the mix the better, just as long as they're dancing to your tune.

So here are 3 quick tips on how you can embrace modern marketing practices and grow faster;

  1. Get on board with social media (both for yourself and your company) - grow your footprint and engagement and show the world that there's a well developed and growing interest in your products or services - and also that some of them even care enough to interact every now and then. Getting likes, shares and comments is hard work and as much as it's down to coming up with engaging creative, it's also about those first few followers getting involved. So who do you know that could help show support - your team, suppliers, clients, friends & family? It's a lot easier to click that 'like' button once a few others have - so get those early likes and signs of support quickly - and reciprocate. We're all in this together so share and share a like!

  2. Keep in touch via email - a massively overlooked tool of recent years (aside from those fools who spam the life out of their data) but this is a great way to keep people up-to-date with your latest work, insights in to the team and new developments in your offering. Let them know what events you're going to be at, what interesting articles or videos you would recommend etc. Be relevant and give people enough insights and inspiration to want to follow you.

  3. Look ahead and plan - too often companies miss opportunities to make positive noise (either themselves or via others) by not being prepared to promote campaigns or significant milestones well enough. You need to be thinking about three things; before, during, after. If it's an event what are you doing before to make it a success? Whilst it's taking place how are you creating more of a buzz to stand out and attract others whilst it's taking place and after, what do you share to impress people so much they make sure not to miss you in the future.

This is a topic I could talk about all day, every day, because it's relevant and vital to your success. Many hands make light work so get great people around you and if you don't have the time or expertise to do this well, outsource it. It's why we exist - to help all of our clients focus on what they are great at and help them get their messages out to market and build momentum .
